🎂CAKE DECORATING TIPS!👇⬇️

Top coating your cake and getting that gorgeous smooth finish 😍 here’s my best tips..

1️⃣ Make sure your cake is properly chilled (first layer of buttercream hard to the touch and not at all wet still) before you start icing the top coat.
2️⃣ Give your buttercream a good beating before you use it! This makes is easy to spread on and eliminates air bubbles 🥰
3️⃣ Use your larger flat pallet knife to spread the buttercream around the cake, using the same method (explained in part 1!) and do a nice thick coating. Cover the whole cake and grab your cake scraper again to smooth it out- (also see my cake scraper tips in video 1!)
4️⃣ For a drip, I like to use a piping bag so I can control exactly where the drip goes. Biscoff spread makes the BEST drips on cakes 🤤!!

This was a banana, chocolate chip and Biscoff cake. It’s Vegan (but not gluten free so my tummy wasn’t super happy 🙄😅- but it was worth it)!

🍰CAKE DECORATING TIPS!👇⬇️

🍰The crumb coat is the first coating of buttercream to lock in those naughty crumbs and make sure you get that beautiful smooth finish to your cakes. This ‘buttercream’ was Vegan Biscoff with added sea salt 🤤 Here are my top tips for getting the best crumb coat..

1️⃣ Make sure your sponges are FULLY cool before trimming them. Use a cake trimmer to trim your sponges and make the tops are nice and even.
2️⃣ Use a little buttercream to stick the first sponge to the cake board. This will stop it sliding around!
3️⃣ Make sure your icing is lovely, fluffy and whipped before you start using it. Use a nice big dollop of icing in each layer and use a small angled pallet knife to spread it around. If it comes down the edges this is fine!
4️⃣ For the crumb coat, I like using a larger flat pallet knife. Scoop lots of icing onto it and spread a really thick layer onto the cake. The technique here takes a little practice; gently move it back and forwards and push the icing on without dragging the crumbs off too much- you want to think about locking them in. Make sure it’s a nice thick layer.
5️⃣ Use your cake scraper to scrape around the cake. My top tip here is to hold the scraper still at a good angle and turn the turntable, rather than dragging the scraper around the cake. This makes sure it stays in one place and it keeps it even from top to bottom.
6️⃣ Pop your crumb coated cake in the fridge to set for atleast 30-45 mins…
7️⃣ Wait for part 2 of this video to see how to get the perfect top coat 😍❤️!!

Are you feeling stressed about whether customers will pay your prices? Here’s the thing.. confidence starts with mindset AND how you carry yourself.

This is a technique you can use to help you FEEL that confidence. Try this before any conversation about pricing 💰 to calm anxiety, build confidence, release stress and increase presence 🧘‍♀️🥰

✨Alternate nostril breathing: put your thumb over your right nostril and inhale through the left nostril. Hold for a count of 4.
✨Cover the left nostril with your second or middle finger and exhale for a count of 4 through the right nostril.
✨Keep the left nostril covered, inhale through the right nostril, hold for 4. Keep switching between so you are equally inhaling and exhaling from each side.
✨Repeat these affirmations in your head as you do the breath work exercise: ‘I am worthy of my prices’ ‘My prices reflect my value’ 🧘‍♀️🥰

REMEMBER: You are not just charging for a product. Your charging for your time, skill, PASSION and the unique value you bring. OWN it!! 😊

👨‍🍳Smooth, flawless icing- its every bakers dream, but I remember how ANNOYING it was when I first started!!! 🤬🤯 Air bubbles, uneven icing and frustration used to drive me crazy!! 😒 But after weeks of practice, I found out what works- and now I’m sharing my best tips with you 🥹🎂:

🎂Equipment:
✅Get a cake turntable (you can find affordable ones)
✅Use 2 palette knives: a small angled one and a larger flat one.
✅Buy a plastic cake scraper- it’s a game changer!!

🎂Buttercream tips:
✅Whip your buttercream until it’s really soft and fluffy- this is key for that smooth finish.
✅Apply the buttercream generously and thick before smoothing.

🎂Application tips:
✅Hold your cake scraper still and turn the turn table- DON’T drag the scraper around the cake.
✅Find the right angle and be gentle while you get the hang of it.
✅Do a crumb coat, set it in the fridge and then apply a final coat.
✅Try and work as quickly as possible, as the icing does dry quickly and causes those air bubbles. Don’t worry, this will get easier!

👨‍🍳And the biggest tip?! PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT! Don’t feel disheartened if your cakes aren’t perfect. It took me weeks or practice to nail my technique, and you’ll get there too!!
